adminTEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson condemned a fatal terrorist attack that targeted a political rally in northwestern Pakistan.
In a statement on Sunday, Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) Party in Pakistan’s Bajur district.
He offered the Iranian government’s condolences to the Pakistani government and nation over the terrorist attack, which left at least 44 people killed and many more injured.
The terrorists committed yet another crime to make many families in the neighboring and brotherly country of Pakistan grieve for their loved ones, the Iranian spokesman said, adding, “The Islamic Republic of Iran stands with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and expresses its sympathy to the families of the victims of this terrorist act and prays to God to bestow health upon the wounded.”
The blast targeted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) party in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when more than 400 members and supporters gathered under a tent in the town of Khar, near the border with Afghanistan, on Sunday. Khar is located in the former tribal area of Bajaur.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the local chapter of the Daesh terrorist group has recently carried out attacks against JUI-F.
Pakistan has seen a resurgence of attacks by militants since last year when a ceasefire between the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the government in Islamabad broke down.
The TTP pledges allegiance to Afghanistan’s Taliban. The Pakistani government accuses the Taliban government of providing hideouts to the TTP militants near the border.
