adminTEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mir Mostafa Javadi of Iran won a gold medal at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Monday night.
He lifted 169kg in snatch in the Men’s 89-Kilogram and held 215kg overhead in clean and jerk to win the gold 384kg in total.
China’s Li Dayin won the silver with 383kg (170/213) and Venezuela’s Keydomar Vallenilla-Sanchez seized the bronze with 381kg (171/210).
Javadi follows in the footsteps of countryman Kianoush Rostami. Both men won their first World title off the back of an unexpected clean and jerk — Rostami clinched his win in 2011, then went on to become Olympic champion five years later.
