Spokesman Raps US’ Vain Attempt after Sanctions on Iranian Media

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian administration condemned the fresh sanctions that the US has imposed on a number of Iranian news agencies, including Tasnim, as a futile attempt to conceal the truth.

In comments at a press conference on Tuesday, Ali Bahadori Jahromi denounced the new US sanctions against Tasnim and two other Iranian media outlets as a repeated vain attempt by the West to suppress the truth.

“It is obvious that the Americans are afraid that the truth would be uncovered. This reveals the policy of the US,” he added.

The spokesman said while the US spends huge amounts of money on its media empire, it cannot tolerate the voice of an independent media outlet.

Bahadori Jahromi congratulated Tasnim and the two other Iranian media outlets on being sanctioned by the US, saying it indicates that the Iranian agencies have been able to spread the voice of truth.

On Friday, the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated 29 individuals and entities in connection with what it called Iran’s suppression of protests following last year’s death of Mahsa Amini.

The sanctions target three media outlets, including the Tasnim News Agency.
